The Utility Combination Tool manufactured by UMCo, London, represents one of Britain's most distinctive multi-function corkscrew designs of the early twentieth century. Registered under British Design No. 689051 in 1922, the pressed steel frame incorporates a folding corkscrew together with a series of practical workshop and household functions including a tin opener, bottle cap lifter, bottle stopper wrench, measuring scale, hammer, paper pattern and stencil cutter, coin tester, glass breaker and glass cutter. The tool is illustrated and described in Donald A. Bull's The Ultimate Corkscrew Book, where it is recognised as an important British combination corkscrew.
This example retains its original folding worm, glass cutter wheel, can opener and registered markings. The nickel-plated finish shows honest age-related wear consistent with careful use, while the frame remains straight and complete with no evidence of repair or replacement components. The worm is straight and sharp, and the principal functions remain operational. A well-preserved collector's example suitable for both display and careful use.
