Mid-19th Century Folding Knife Corkscrew, Forged Archimedean Worm, Silver Handles, c.1840–1875
This is a mid-19th century folding knife incorporating a corkscrew and two additional blades, belonging to the pre-industrial personal wine tool tradition. The corkscrew is fitted with a hand-forged Archimedean worm of square cross section, typical of production prior to mechanised worm cutting. Such pieces were carried as personal table implements and predate the standardised waiter’s knife format that emerged later in the 19th century.
The silver handles are engraved and show honest surface wear consistent with age. The worm remains straight with defined turns and a sharp point. Hinges show normal play for the period but remain secure. All tools deploy correctly. Fully usable with appropriate care.
