This Lobi/Gurunsi wooden stool originates from the Lobi–Gurunsi cultural region of south-western Burkina Faso and northern Ghana. It was traditionally made and used by the Lobi and Gurunsi peoples, renowned for their powerful, architectural wood carvings and deeply symbolic domestic objects.

The stool functioned as a personal low seat within the household and could also serve as a status or ritual object, reflecting the owner’s position, age, or social role. Carved by hand from solid wood, it features a broad circular seat and base joined by intersecting supports, and displays a deep, naturally developed patina with handling wear and age-related fissures consistent with long-term use.

The piece dates to the early 20th century or earlier and comes from the Egon Guenther Collection, an established early European collection that significantly strengthens its authenticity and historical credibility.
