Yoruba Ceremonial Brass Anklet — Southwestern Nigeria, Late 19th to Early 20th Century
This lost-wax–cast brass anklet was produced by Yoruba metalworkers of southwestern Nigeria and reflects a tradition in which copper alloys signified wealth, status, and spiritual authority (ase).
Such anklets were worn by women of high social standing during ceremonies, festivals, and public appearances, where their weight and form emphasized movement and presence.
Dimensions 10,6cm long, 7,56 cm wide 3,76 cm high weighs 388 grams
Provenance: acquired by Egon Guenther from Hans Himmelheber, placing this object within a significant early 20th-century lineage of African art collection and study.
