The corkscrew shows traditional late 19th century workshop construction.
The handle is lathe-turned hardwood, shaped into a comfortable service grip and fitted with a suspension ring and an integrated natural bristle cleaning brush.
The metal shank is bulbous and baluster-turned, formed in rounded segments rather than plain rod stock

The worm is a hand-forged tapered spiral (wire worm) with an open helix and sharpened point, designed to enter cork smoothly and reduce breakage. Overall the piece combines machine turning (wood) with hand finishing and forging (metal), characteristic of quality tavern corkscrews made before full industrial standardisation.

Condition
Wood handle with light age wear and patina. Metal shank and worm show typical oxidation. Brush present with no  bristle loss. Structurally sound with honest service wear.
