Syroco “Old Codger” Sculptural Figure with Hidden Corkscrew – 1940s
A highly collectable Syroco Wood figural corkscrew in the form of a smiling top-hat gentleman, "Old Codger" as a decorative tabletop figure with a hidden, removable corkscrew/bottle-opener assembly. These character corkscrews were produced by the Syracuse Ornamental Company (Syroco), Syracuse, New York (USA), using SyrocoWood a molded wood-pulp composition made to resemble hand carving—then hand painted.
The metalwork is a bell-assisted corkscrew style commonly associated with Syroco’s mid-century novelty line; reference sources note Syroco examples fitted with Williamson-supplied worm and bell components on certain models/variants.
Circa 1940 to 1950
