Senufo Zoomorphic Bronze Bracelet, Northern Côte d’Ivoire / Mali Region – Lost Wax Cast Bangle
This small cast copper alloy bracelet is attributed to the Senufo cultural sphere of the northern Côte d’Ivoire–southern Mali, Burkina Faso region. The circular hoop terminates in a modeled crouching animal, a form encountered in Senufo personal adornment traditions where zoomorphic elements and geometric band ornament served as markers of regional identity and status within everyday dress.
The bracelet was produced by lost-wax casting and subsequently finished by hand, visible in the chased exterior band and subtle casting irregularities. Surface wear, softened edges, and stable patina with areas of verdigris indicate prolonged age and use. Objects of this type are collected for the clarity with which they demonstrate regional metalworking practice within Sahelian copper-alloy ornament traditions.
