Early 20th century four-legged stool attributed to the Senufo people, northern Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. Hand-carved from a single block of hardwood, these sculptural seats were traditionally used by elders and dignitaries and are associated with status and spiritual authority within Senufo society. The powerful tapering legs and thick adzed top reflect classic West African tribal craftsmanship.

Provenance: Egon Guenther Collection, acquired from the Emile Stora Collection (marked E/S).

A strong example of museum-comparable African ethnographic art.
