This pair comprises two figural direct-pull corkscrews produced in cast brass, each representing a different approach to mid-20th century novelty corkscrew manufacture. The English example is formed as a stylised cat and incorporates a steel worm mounted within a cast brass body. The Israeli example, marked HAKUL, is cast in monkey form with an integral brass worm. Both operate within the traditional direct-pull mechanical family and reflect the increasing popularity of collectible figural corkscrews during the post-war period.
Both examples show honest collector-grade wear consistent with age and use. The English cat retains clear markings including pattern number L/609, MADE IN ENGLAND and REG. 875453. The monkey retains its HAKUL marking. The worms remain complete and usable. These pieces remain attractive display examples while still retaining practical functionality.
