This James Heeley Patent No. 6006 A1 Double Lever corkscrew is a later production example of Neville Heeley's celebrated 1888 patent design. Constructed in nickel-plated steel and retailer marked Buss & Sons, Manchester, it belongs to the mature development of the A1 Double Lever series, distinguished by the simplified "A1 Heeley's Double Lever" marking rather than the full patent inscription found on earlier examples. The twin-lever mechanism provides balanced cork extraction and represents one of the most successful British mechanical corkscrew designs of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The corkscrew remains in very good antique condition with only slight reduction of the nickel plating on the worm shaft and honest age-related wear throughout. The worm is straight and sharp, the joints retain good alignment with minimal play, and the mechanism operates smoothly. Suitable for both display and careful practical use.

Note: The display base is not included as part of the corkscrew.
