Hannes Haars Abstract Wool Tapestry, Woven by Portalegre, Portugal, c.1970
Pickup currently not available
Large-scale abstract wool tapestry designed by South African artist Hannes Haars (1927–2007) and woven by the Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre workshop, Portugal. The composition reflects the artist’s modernist geometric language translated into textile form through the highly refined handwoven techniques associated with Portalegre’s internationally recognized tapestry atelier production during the mid to late 20th century. The tapestry retains the woven artist signature together with the original Portalegre workshop label.
Presented in collector-grade vintage condition with minor age-related wear consistent with textile display and handling. Colors remain stable and visually strong, with no significant visual losses observed. Retains original workshop identification label and artist authorization markings.
Circa: 1970.
Provenance: Egon Guenther Collection, Johannesburg, South Africa, descending through family provenance to the Thomas Guenther Collection, Netherlands.
