A substantial West African brass currency bracelet, also commonly described as a manilla, formed as an open-ended bracelet with decorated raised bands and finely incised ribbing. Objects of this type functioned as personal adornment, prestige objects and forms of stored value within regional exchange systems in West Africa.

This example was produced using the lost-wax casting technique and shows an aged surface patina with wear consistent with age and handling. Its strong documented provenance from the Hans Himmelheber Collection, later the Egon Guenther Collection, gives it particular relevance for collectors of African ethnographic art and historic currency objects.
