F. Lorch Geneva-Pattern Watchmaker’s Lathe with Hand-Cranked Drive, Cast Iron and Steel, Germany, c.1890–1915
Pickup currently not available
An early German Geneva-pattern watchmaker’s lathe manufactured by F. Lorch. The round bed carries a swivelling headstock with an externally mounted stepped pulley and indexing holes, together with an adjustable hand rest and tailstock assembly. This compact precision machine was designed for turning, drilling and finishing small watch and instrument components.
The lathe is accompanied by an F. Lorch hand-cranked flywheel drive intended for attachment to a workbench and connection to the headstock by belt. Its cast and machined construction retains extensive evidence of workshop use, including losses to the black finish, surface marks and localised oxidation. Offered as an antique horological machine and collector’s tool; its working accuracy has not been tested.
