Dartmoor Pixie Figural Straight Pull Corkscrew, Cast Brass & Steel, United Kingdom
Pickup currently not available
The Dartmoor Pixie is a British figural straight-pull corkscrew produced during the early twentieth century for the souvenir market. Cast in brass with an integral T-handle depicting the legendary Dartmoor Pixie standing upon a mushroom, it incorporates a traditional steel worm fixed into a brass ferrule. The design belongs to the long-established straight-pull family, where the worm is screwed directly into the cork before extraction by hand.
This example retains its original steel worm, brass ferrule and original stitched leather sheath. The casting remains crisp with honest age-related wear and a pleasing natural patina. The worm is straight, correctly tapered and remains suitable for practical use.
Collector Note:
Illustrated in Donald A. Bull's The Ultimate Corkscrew Book under "A Few More Figurals", confirming this as a recognised British Dartmoor Pixie figural corkscrew
