T-Handle Corkscrew with Brush Holder Rosette, Bone & Turned Wood, Europe, c.1880–1900
A T-handle direct pull corkscrew fitted with a decorative rosette incorporating a brush holder beneath the turned wooden shaft. This form combines the standard straight-pull extraction mechanism with a small integrated brush intended for cleaning bottle lips or cork fragments after opening. Such brush-mounted rosettes appear on a number of late 19th-century European corkscrews and represent a functional refinement within the traditional direct pull family.
The crossbar handle is turned from bone with simple incised ring decoration and fitted with a central suspension ring. The central shaft is turned hardwood terminating in a pressed rosette plate designed to carry a small circular brush; the brush is no longer present. The steel worm remains straight with a sharp point and the tool is structurally sound with consistent age patina.
