Marked HH2This West African bronze serpent bracelet originates from the Lower Niger / Niger–Benue region of southwestern Nigeria

It can be attributed to Yoruba-speaking peoples, or closely related Yoruba-affiliated riverine cultures, dating to the 19th century.

It was produced using the lost-wax (cire perdue) casting technique, resulting in a solid, individually cast armlet with incised decoration and a stylised serpent head. The serpent motif is associated with protection, spiritual authority, and continuity, and the bracelet functioned as a ritual or status armlet, worn by titled or initiated individuals rather than serving as currency or ordinary adornment.
