West African Cast Brass Bracelet – Akan Cultural Area (Attributed), Ghana / Côte d’Ivoire

This open circular bracelet is attributed to the Akan cultural area of present-day Ghana and neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire. The form consists of a solid cast brass band with a braided relief ridge and a raised decorative element on the outer edge. Bracelets of this type were worn as personal adornment and are part of the long tradition of cast metal jewellery produced by West African metalworkers.

The bracelet was created using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, a method widely practiced in the Akan region for ornaments, regalia, and goldweights. The slightly irregular surface, visible casting characteristics, and wear to the high points confirm hand production. Examples of cast brass jewellery such as this are collected as representative works of West African metalworking traditions.
