West African Bronze Anklet / Bracelet, Possibly Senufo, Côte d’Ivoire or Mali Region, Lost-Wax Cast, Late 19th–Early 20th Century
Pickup currently not available
A substantial cast metal anklet or bracelet of open cuff form with flared terminals and restrained geometric ornament. The form, scale, and decorative treatment are consistent with West African metalworking traditions associated with northern Côte d’Ivoire, southern Mali, and neighbouring regions. Comparable examples have been attributed to Senufo traditions and are documented in ethnographic collections and the African art market as prestige adornments, heavy anklets, or currency-related forms.
The object appears to have been produced using the traditional lost-wax casting technique and subsequently hand-finished. Surface wear, oxidation, and handling marks are consistent with age and use. The heavy cast structure, balanced proportions, and sculptural form make the piece suitable for collectors of African metalwork and historic ethnographic material.
