This substantial West African brass currency bracelet was produced using the traditional lost-wax casting technique and formed as an open-ended bracelet with rounded terminals. Objects of this type functioned as both personal adornment and a recognised store of wealth within regional exchange and prestige systems. The bracelet is decorated with repeating crescent and geometric motifs characteristic of West African cast metalwork traditions.
The bracelet exhibits an attractive age-related patina and evidence of historical use. The original Hans Himmelheber collection inventory mark remains visible, providing an important documentary link to one of the most significant twentieth-century collectors and researchers of African material culture. Its secure provenance and traditional manufacture make it an appealing example for collectors of African art and ethnographic metalwork.
