Viking Ship Figural Corkscrew, Cast Silver-Plated Metal, Østlandske Sølv og Plett (O.S.P.), Norway, mid-20th century
This figural corkscrew represents the Norwegian Viking ship souvenir type produced by Østlandske Sølv og Plett (O.S.P.) of Oslo. The cast longship body forms the base while a central turned shaft carries a wire-formed worm. A removable curved sail sheath fits over the worm for protection and storage. The design follows O.S.P.’s 1933 patented concept and became one of the best-known Scandinavian souvenir corkscrew forms of the mid-20th century.
The example retains its silver plating and the detachable sail cover engraved “HILSEN FRA NORGE” and “TIL REIDUN OG EDGAR.” The underside carries the stamped O.S.P. mark visible in the photographs. The worm remains straight with a defined point and the corkscrew operates normally. Minor surface wear consistent with age and handling is present but the structure remains sound and suitable for careful use.
