This open copper-alloy bracelet is attributed to the Senufo cultural region spanning northern Côte d’Ivoire and neighbouring areas of Burkina Faso and Mali. Its raised zoomorphic figure may represent a chameleon or another spiritually significant animal. Comparable Senufo body ornaments, sometimes described as yawiige, could combine personal adornment with a protective or amuletic function. The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The bracelet has been individually produced by lost-wax casting and subsequently finished by hand. Closely spaced incised lines cover the exterior, while broad terminals and a recessed interior define its open form. Casting irregularities, softened edges, surface wear and areas of patination are consistent with traditional manufacture, handling and age.
