A substantial West African prestige anklet of elongated oval form, attributed to the Voltaic cultural region of present-day Burkina Faso. Cast in copper alloy, it is distinguished by opposed expanded terminals and an extensively decorated outer face incorporating cross-hatched bands, linear motifs and bordered geometric fields. Related brass and copper-alloy anklets are documented among the Bwa and Nuna peoples of Burkina Faso in major museum collections.

Made by the lost-wax casting process, the anklet combines a substantial circular-section body with carefully modelled terminals and applied surface ornament. The reverse is comparatively restrained, while the decorated face retains clear evidence of the original geometric treatment. Surface wear, patination and minor casting irregularities are consistent with age and traditional manufacture. Its sculptural form, weight and surviving ornament make it a strong example for a collection of historic West African metalwork.
