Late Victorian English T-Handle Corkscrew with Brush, Turned Wood and Steel, c.1880–1900
Pickup currently not available
A late Victorian English straight-pull corkscrew with a finely turned wooden T-handle, retained brush and decoratively turned steel shank. Designed for direct extraction, the broad handle provides leverage while the brush was intended for cleaning the bottle neck before opening.
The handle has deep annular turnings at both ends and a central metal band with a visible upper shank fixing. The worm is formed from steel wire with an unusual grooved cross-section. The careful finishing, complete brush and very good state of preservation distinguish this example from more utilitarian wooden T-handles of the period.
