This substantial West African bronze currency anklet, of broad crescent or manilla form, is attributed to an Akan or closely related metalworking tradition. Objects of this type served as prestige ornaments and recognised forms of wealth within regional exchange systems while also functioning as personal adornment.

Individually cast using the traditional lost-wax process, the anklet displays finely engraved linear bands, raised scroll motifs and decorated terminals. The naturally developed patina, casting quality and evident age make it an excellent example for collectors of African ethnographic art and historical currency.
