This finely handwoven natural fibre prestige basket is attributed to the Southern Tswana cultural tradition of Botswana and northern South Africa. Constructed using tightly coiled weaving, it displays a shallow bowl form with carefully balanced spiral construction and understated geometric decoration. Baskets of this type were valued for both domestic use and social prestige within Tswana communities.

The basket has been woven entirely by hand using natural plant fibres, demonstrating the high level of technical skill associated with Southern African basketry. It remains in very good collector's condition with honest age-related wear and an attractive natural patina. Well-preserved examples are increasingly sought after by collectors of African ethnographic art and traditional basketry.
