English Setter Figural Crown Cork Bottle Opener, Cast White Metal, Rubal New York, USA, c.1950–1970

This is a figural crown cork bottle opener in the form of an English Setter in pointing stance, produced by Rubal New York. The opener belongs to the mid-20th century family of novelty bar tools in which the functional cap-lifting element is incorporated into the base. Here, a recessed screw-fixed steel plate forms the working opener. Pieces of this type sit within American figural barware, where utilitarian bottle-opening function is combined with a cast sporting dog form.
The present example is made in cast white metal with a cold-painted finish. It shows honest age-related wear, including paint loss, abrasions, and surface rubbing to the high points. The base plate remains intact and secure, and the marking “Rubal New York” is clearly visible. The opener remains usable, and the casting appears structurally sound with no evident cracks.
