Baule Bronze Cuff Bracelet, Côte d’Ivoire – Lost Wax Cast Solid Open Bangle
This solid cast bronze cuff bracelet is attributed to the Baule culture of Côte d’Ivoire. Formed as a substantial open bangle with flared terminals and a slightly tapered body, it reflects the sculptural metal traditions of the Akan-speaking peoples. Such cuffs were worn as markers of status and personal wealth and could function as prestige adornment within social and ceremonial contexts.
The bracelet was produced using the lost-wax casting technique, evident in its integral form and subtle surface irregularities. The surface displays a deep, naturally developed patina with areas of wear consistent with age and handling. The weight and casting density indicate a non-hollow construction. Comparable examples appear in museum collections and the ethnographic art market, where solid Akan-region bronze cuffs remain established collector material.
