Etchings

This group of etchings and prints was produced in the Linksfield studio of Egon Guenther in Johannesburg, South Africa, a space that became an important collaborative environment for artists working in graphic media. Printed in collaboration with Bundespapier, these works were issued in carefully controlled limited editions—typically no more than 75 impressions, along with up to 15 trial proofs—reflecting both technical discipline and collectable rarity. Most impressions were printed on fine Zerkall Bütten paper, prized for its quality and durability, further enhancing the integrity of each print.

The collection includes etchings by Cecil Skotnes, known for his bold, graphic compositions; works by Hannes Haas, characterised by refined line and tonal subtlety; and prints by Kim Berman, whose imagery often engages with layered narratives and social themes. Together, these works highlight the diversity of artistic expression fostered in Guenther’s studio and underscore the important role of printmaking in South Africa’s modern art history.
