T-Handle Corkscrew, Stag Horn & Silver Coin Inset, Lauret Siret Rochefort France, c.1900
Pickup currently not available
A traditional T-handle corkscrew of the direct-pull type, formed with a fixed steel shank and integral worm. Operation is by rotation of the transverse horn handle followed by manual extraction. This form belongs to the long-standing simple mechanical family, remaining in production alongside more complex lever systems into the early 20th century. The use of natural stag horn and a coin-set terminal reflects a French workshop tradition combining practical construction with restrained decorative detail.
The terminal inset is formed from a silver coin, likely a late 19th-century Belgian issue depicting Leopold II of Belgium, consistent with coins of .835 silver fineness commonly repurposed in such applications. Condition consistent with age and use. The worm is complete with defined tip and good pitch. Shank shows surface wear and light oxidation. Horn handle stable with natural texture and minor marks. Coin inset secure. Mechanically sound and suitable for use.
