Mid-century Austrian brass elephant corkscrew in Hagenauer style with cast form and original patinated finish.

A figural corkscrew in the form of an elephant, produced in Austria in the mid-20th century and reflecting the design vocabulary associated with the Hagenauer Werkstätte, Vienna. The sculptural form integrates function, with the animal’s raised trunk forming the corkscrew worm, a characteristic approach within Austrian modernist metalwork where utility and stylised representation are combined.
Cast in brass with a blackened patina and polished highlights to the ears, the surface shows wear consistent with age and handling. Minor abrasions and areas of patina loss are visible on raised sections. Objects of this type were produced as part of a broader range of decorative desk and bar accessories and remain of interest to collectors of 20th-century Austrian design and corkscrews.
