Holborn Straight Pull Corkscrew, Ring Shank, Rosewood Handle, England, Circa 1880 to 1900
Pickup currently not available
A Holborn-type straight pull corkscrew, characterised by its cast shank incorporating a central finger ring beneath a turned transverse handle. This configuration, associated with late 19th century English production following the Wolverhampton patent tradition, allows a firm two-finger grip while applying direct axial pull. The wire-formed worm is fixed and tapered, typical of the period, and intended for controlled vertical extraction without leverage assistance.
The example is unmarked, with a turned rosewood handle showing typical grain and lathe work. The steel shank and worm retain a consistent patina.
The worm remains straight with a defined tip and usable helix. Minor play at the handle junction consistent with age. Surface wear commensurate with use; no structural faults observed. Fully functional.
