Farrow & Jackson Type Open-Frame Corkscrew, Wing Nut (Handle-Fixed), Brass, England, c.1880
Pickup currently not available
A brass open-frame corkscrew of the handle-fixed to frame type, employing a winged turning handle (fly-nut) acting directly on a threaded central shaft. Rotation of the handle advances the worm through the frame while the lower collar bears on the bottle neck. This construction represents a late development within the open-frame family, following earlier loose T-handle variants, and is associated with English production in the later 19th century, often linked to the Farrow & Jackson mechanical lineage.
The example is unmarked and constructed in brass with a steel worm. Surface shows consistent age patina and light wear, with no evidence of later plating. The worm remains straight and sharp; threads are well-defined. The mechanism runs smoothly with minimal play in the frame. Minor surface marks and oxidation consistent with age. Fully usable.
