A carved wooden headrest attributed to the Oromo peoples of Ethiopia, of a form commonly associated with Borana types. Characterised by a gently curved crescent support raised on a flared conical base, this type of headrest was traditionally used to support the head during rest while preserving coiffure. Within Oromo cultural contexts, such objects also functioned as personal possessions, sometimes carried and used in both domestic and pastoral settings.

The piece is carved from a single block of hardwood and displays a deep, naturally developed patina. Surface wear, abrasions, and handling marks are consistent with age and use, with visible shrinkage cracking to the base. The sculptural clarity of the form and the well-balanced proportions place it within a recognised corpus of Ethiopian headrests collected and traded in the 20th century.
