Its form relates to the \u003cem\u003eugqoko\u003c\/em\u003e tradition of wooden dishes used for presenting meat and other prepared food at household and communal gatherings. The attribution remains qualified because most documented \u003cem\u003eugqoko\u003c\/em\u003e are larger and oval, whereas this example is compact and circular.\u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe vessel was hand-carved from a single piece of dense hardwood. Its underside is darkened and decorated with three repeated geometric relief motifs. Interior wear, underside wear and a developed surface patina record sustained use.
